Practice management · Nigerian law firms

Run the firm from the file, not from memory.

Matters, a court diary that computes deadlines from the rules of the Lagos and federal courts and shows its working, documents and e-signature, fee notes with VAT and withholding right first time, and research that cites the authority. One workspace for the whole chambers — and a trial you can start this afternoon.

01What running a firm feels like
A lawyer taking a client's call in a court corridor between hearings, file under one arm
Between hearings, the practice still runs on the phone.

Too much of the practice lives in someone's head.

The pains are familiar. The answers should be too, so each one here is a screen in DeLaw, not a promise.

  1. Deadlines kept by memory

Deadlines are computed from the court's rule, with the working written beside them (Lagos and federal courts today), and DeLaw reminds the lawyer on the matter before they fall due.

  2. Nobody sees the whole firm

Partners see every matter, hearing, task and fee note across the chambers on one dashboard: who holds what, what is at risk, what is still unbilled.

  3. Knowledge walks out with seniors

Precedents, checklists and file notes stay on the matter and in the firm's knowledge base, and Ask DeLaw answers from them in plain English.

  4. Hours that never become a fee note

Time is captured as it happens and becomes a fee note in one step, VAT and withholding right, so the client pays the correct figure first time.

  5. Clients chasing on WhatsApp

The client portal shows each client their own matters, hearings, invoices and shared documents, nothing more, so the questions stop before they reach your phone.

Counsel climbing the steps of a courthouse in the early morning

Every date on the matter is traced to the rule that made it.

How the diary is built
02How DeLaw works

Three moves, and the matter is on rails.

  1. 01

    Open the matter

Record the client and every party. The conflict check runs against everyone the firm has ever recorded, clients, opponents and witnesses alike, before the matter opens, and the result is kept on the file.

  2. 02

    Engage the client

The engagement letter comes off the firm's template with the LPRO 2023 fee scale to hand, goes out for signature through DeLaw Sign, and the client is invited to the portal in the same step.

  3. 03

    Put it in the diary

Hearings, filings and deadlines land in the firm diary. Deadlines are computed from the rule you choose, with the working shown; reminders reach the lawyer on the matter with the app closed: an email brief each morning, a push to their phone or laptop before each court date, and their diary in Outlook, Google Calendar or Apple Calendar.

The file knows its own dates.

A matter carries its parties, the conflict check that cleared it, every hearing with its outcome and next date, and every deadline with the rule it was computed from. Partners see the whole chambers; each lawyer sees their desk.

  • Conflict check at intake across every party the firm has ever recorded
  • Deadlines in days, clear days or working days, with the computation shown
  • Cause-list and hearing outcomes recorded on the matter, not in a notebook
  • Court filing tracker for what has been filed, served and returned

Drafted from your precedents, signed with a trail.

Templates with Nigerian clauses, versions that cannot be rewritten after the fact, court bundles paginated from the PDFs on the matter, and e-signature that keeps the evidence: who signed, how they were verified, when, and the hash of exactly what they saw.

  • Engagement letters, motions and affidavits from the firm's own templates
  • Bundles paginated and indexed from the PDFs on the matter
  • DeLaw Sign with a downloadable certificate for every signature
  • Privilege and sharing set per document; drafts default to unshared

05Research & Ask DeLaw

No citation, no assertion.

Research runs live on Claude over Nigerian law sources and returns answers with real URLs: every authority opens to its source. A line with nothing behind it is labelled an unsourced draft, so it never passes as law. Ask DeLaw also answers about your own practice ("which fee notes are over 60 days?"): on your device with nothing sent, or, with cloud answers on, by sending Claude the question, the figures behind it and matter titles.

  • Live research sends Claude the question, with citations that open to the authority
  • Cloud answers are on for a new workspace; the owner can switch them off
  • Matter AI reads a matter's documents only after an owner or partner turns it on for that matter, and privileged ones only if they include them
  • Document review sends the document you submit; the Notetaker sends the transcript and a summary of the linked matter, and shows you exactly what

06Billing & inflows

Time becomes money without the chase.

Unbilled time becomes a fee note in one step with the schedule attached. VAT and withholding are worked out the way Nigerian clients actually pay, so the first figure is the right figure. Receivables are aged, reminders open in your own mail, and client money stays on a trust ledger that refuses to overdraw.

  • LPRO 2023 fee scales at hand when you set the fee
  • VAT and WHT shown on the note, not argued about afterwards
  • Clients pay by bank transfer to the account on the fee note and upload the proof in the portal; finance acknowledges it and the receipt lands on the matter
  • Trust ledger per client, with the receipt and proof of payment on the matter

07Client portal & mobile

Clients see their matter. Only their matter.

A client logs in and sees exactly what a lawyer chose to share: their matters, the next hearing, their fee notes with the firm's bank details, documents meant for them. The firm's web workspace installs to a phone's home screen, with the matter file available when the signal is not.

  • Portal access enforced on the server, never by the browser
  • Clients pay a fee note by bank transfer and upload the proof in the portal; the receipt lands on the matter
  • The web app installs to a phone's home screen; DeLaw for Android on Google Play is a separate companion app with its own sign-in
  • Offline: the matter file, diary and notes you have opened stay readable without signal

08Compliance: registers, walls, audit

Produce the evidence, don't promise it.

Every action, by a member or by the server, is sealed on the server in order: each entry is numbered and carries the hash of the one before, so a gap, an edit or a reordering shows, and the owner’s morning email carries each day’s seal as a copy outside DeLaw. Ethical walls are enforced in the database, not by asking nicely. NDPA registers keep their own statutory clocks for data-subject requests and breach notices.

  • Server-sealed audit log you can verify and export
  • Ethical walls and conflicts enforced at the database layer
  • NDPA 2023 registers: DSARs, breaches, processing activities, with clocks
  • Complaints and undertakings carry their own deadlines

12Security & privacy

Your firm's data is your firm's.

Every record belongs to one workspace, and access is enforced by signed identity claims on the server, never by the browser. A client-portal login sees only what a lawyer deliberately shared. Privileged drafts default to unshared. Files are encrypted in transit and at rest on Google Cloud.

DeLaw processes personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Data-subject requests, breach notification and the DSAR clock are built into the Compliance screen, and the audit log is sealed on the server so it can be produced, not just promised.

0documents sent to an AI model unless someone in the firm sends them

13Questions

Before you start.

Can I try it without a demo?

Yes. The 14-day trial is self-serve: sign up, walk the guided tour, open your first matter. No card and no call. The demo is there for firms that want someone to walk the chambers through it in twenty minutes, not as a gate.

What does the 14-day trial include?

The whole platform with Enterprise features, up to 25 seats, with no card. One trial per firm, keyed by your email domain. Matters, documents, deadlines and invoices you create during the trial stay when you choose a plan; if the trial ends first, the workspace goes read-only until a plan is active and nothing is deleted.

Does it work with no signal?

The matter file, diary and notes you have opened stay readable in the installed web app without a connection, and changes sync when the signal returns. Research, cloud answers and uploads need a connection.

Where is my data, and who can see it?

On Google Cloud in europe-west1 (Belgium), in a workspace that belongs to your firm alone. Access is enforced on the server by signed identity claims; Korevra staff do not read matter data in the course of support. A client-portal login sees only what a lawyer deliberately shared. The Android companion app keeps its own data on Google Cloud in africa-south1 (Johannesburg). See Security and the privacy policy.

Does DeLaw AI send our documents to a model?

Only when someone in the firm chooses to. On-device answers run in the browser against your own data and send nothing anywhere. Cloud answers are on for a new workspace and the owner can switch them off; they send Claude (Anthropic, in the United States) the question, the figures behind it (counts, totals, dates, ages), matter titles and curated practice playbooks. Live research sends the question. Matter AI sends passages of a matter's documents, and only after an owner or partner has switched it on for that matter; a privileged document is left out unless they include it. Document review sends the document you submit, and the Notetaker the transcript with a summary of the linked matter. Dictation uses your browser's own speech service, which sends the audio to the browser's maker. The privacy policy lists every processor.

Is a citation from DeLaw AI reliable?

DeLaw only cites authorities that exist in its sources or your firm's knowledge base, and every citation opens to the authority so counsel can read it. A generated line with no authority behind it is labelled as an unsourced draft. Counsel verifies every authority in the official report before relying on it in court; the tool assists, the signature on the brief is yours.

How are deadlines computed?

From the rule you choose: days, clear days or working days, the first day excluded where the rule says so, weekends and public holidays rolled where the court's rules provide. The computation and the rule are written beside the date on the matter so a colleague can re-check it. Courts covered today: the High Court of Lagos State, the Federal High Court, the National Industrial Court, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, with the time limits of ACJA 2015 and the Arbitration and Mediation Act 2023. Other courts, including the FCT High Court and the other states' High Courts, have no rule pack yet: you enter the period yourself and DeLaw counts it in calendar days, with the working shown. Confirm the rule against the current edition before relying on it.

Is there a mobile app?

Your web workspace installs to a phone's home screen: open app.delaw.io on the phone and choose Add to Home screen. DeLaw for Android on Google Play is a companion app with its own sign-in and its own data for now, so it does not show your web workspace; the iOS app is in App Store review.

How do we pay?

By card or bank transfer in naira through Flutterwave, or in dollars through Stripe. Monthly or annual; annual plans include two months free. The price shown is the price charged. Receipts live under Billing → Plan in the app. An owner, administrator or finance lead manages the plan and seats.

Can we deploy a single product, or our own branding?

Yes. The firm workspace, the judiciary console, the in-house suite, the client portal and CONNECT each run as a standalone branded product, and every workspace carries its own name, colours and logo. Enterprise and In-House add SSO, and Enterprise a signed data-processing agreement.
